Should “pile” be a consideration when choosing carpet flooring?

Pile is one of the most important considerations you’ll be making when you shop for carpeting. It has everything to do with appearance, performance, and the feeling underfoot.

What's a carpet pile?

It's a term that means how the loops are attached to the backing. For example, all carpets begin as a looped construction, such as Berber or level loop.

They either remain that way or are cut into piles of various heights. There are high pile rugs, low, medium, and looped. Some are cut & loop, where fiber heights are combined to create patterns and textures.

Pile decides whether the carpet is thin or thick. That affects how the floor covering feels underfoot.

It also determines appearance and durability

Carpet pile equals style, and we have a lot in our showroom. They all come in a variety of colors, fibers, and textures. There's something for everyone and every style and budget.

As for durability, generally, the lower the pile, the more durable and easier to keep clean. Some even say they're better for those with allergies. This is because particles and pollutants can't easily get trapped in fibers.

Carpet’s many benefits

1. Style: Come into our carpet store to explore brands like Karastan, Kane, Air.O, and SmartStrand, among others.

2. Sound reduction: The cushioning eliminates the sounds of footsteps, muffled conversations, and beeping devices. This is a great benefit, especially for infants, young children, or shift workers who sleep at odd hours in their homes.

3. Cushioning from falls: People tell us they especially appreciate it if they have senior residents. Or toddlers just learning to walk.
